Samsonsite Raises the Design Bar
Hopping on to the trendiness train, Samsonite has hired fashion designer Alexander McQueen to create a new “Black Label” luggage collection, for men and women. One design takes on the imprint of the human torso, with the ribcage and sternum outlined at the front of the case and the backbone on the back, while another features a crocodile-skin, textured pattern. Specializing in pet carriers, Sherpa offers a variety of designs, including the Monaco, which can accommodate an animal weighing up to 14 pounds. This chic case retails for $325 and comes in red with black trim, black with natural trim, or pink with brown trim, and features mesh panels for ventilation; a padded bottom board; double-zip, side opening; and inside leash ring.

Stylish Flexibility from Tumi
Tumi hired David Chu, founder of Nautica, in January to be its executive creative director. Among his newest designs is the Townhouse collection, which has both hard and soft styles; the former are handcrafted in Italy and have boxed wood construction, while the latter range in size from 20 to 26 inches and come with and without wheels. All are made of Tumi’s black, ballistic nylon; they also feature black leather trim and nickel hardware. The briefcase pictured here retails for $795.

Alpine Durability from Victorinox
Victorinox’s 22-piece Tourbach collection comes in red and black, and is made of a fabric called Performax that has an armor-like weave and a finish that repels any liquid. It features durable zippers, a special grip handle that responds to body heat and conforms to the user’s hand shape, and a wheel system with 80 mm inline-skate wheels that create a smooth, quiet roll. The 24-inch expandable wheeler (right) retails for $695.

Sleek and Nimble Halliburton
Zero Halliburton dates back to the 1930s, when Texas oilman Earle P. Halliburton commissioned a team of aircraft engineers to design an aluminum case that could withstand his constant, rough and tumble, global travel. Among the company’s newest items is a four-inch, bronze aluminum attaché ($495) that has a contoured, ergonomic handle; leather interior; seven pockets; and triple-digit combination lock. Its heat-tempered aluminum shell has the strength of steel, but is one-quarter the weight.
