DISAGREE?

Coachella (California, USA)

Renowned for being the absolute Daddy of all American festivals, Coachella attracts 50,000 fans to each of its three days, and is renowned for securing the biggest acts on the festival circuit every year.

It's held in April, so you'll be a little late this year, but if nothing else floats your boat this summer, start saving for next year's - you won't regret the trip.

2
DISAGREE?

Roskilde (Denmark)

Possibly Europe's biggest festival, Roskilde has been attracting rock fans to Denmark since 1971. Running between the 5th and 8th of July, this year's acts include the Cure and Bruce Springsteen &The E Street Band.

It's a non-profit event, adding to its appeal, and visitors can expect a great mix of music, parties, organic food and experimental art.

3
DISAGREE?

Summer Sonic (Chiba & Osaka, Japan)

A festival that aims to bring the best of rock, hip-hop, punk and more to Japan, Summer Sonic manages to cater to a fairly wide range of music fans, while encompassing the usual Japanese quirkiness you'd expect.

This year's line-up includes acts as diverse as Green Day, Rihanna, New Order, Nelly Furtado, Death Cab for Cutie and Pennywise, and surely caters to every taste more than just about any other festival in existence.

Taking place on the 18th and 19th of August, it's a great bet for anyone who can afford to travel a little.

4
DISAGREE?

Waga Hip Hop Festival (Burkina Faso)

And now for something completely different. The Waga Hip Hop Festival comes from Burkina Faso every October, and showcases the absolute best of West African Hip Hop.

It's maybe not for everyone, but it's safe to say it'd be an experience, possibly more so than any other festival on this list.

5
DISAGREE?

Primavera Sound (Barcelona)

Possibly Spain's number one music festival, Primavera Sound has the advantage of being based in a beautiful city with a top class line-up to boot.

Again, this one takes place at the end of May/start of June, but it's worth considering for next year. This year's line up included Bjork, Wilco and Justice, as well as plenty of others who seem to be doing the festival circuit like The Cure and Death Cab for Cutie,

6
DISAGREE?

Independence Rock (Mumbai, India)

You might think that rock music and India don't go hand in hand, but you'd be wrong. For 24 years this festival has been showcasing the absolute best in Indian rock and metal and offers something completely different.

MTV are on the record as saying ""Independence Rock is by far the Best Local Rock Festival featuring non-international acts in all of Asia", so you know it's good.

7
DISAGREE?

INmusic Festival (Zagreb, Croatia)

A top-class European festival in a location that many won't be altogether familiar with, what's not to love about this festival?

Again, you've missed the boat for this year's by a couple of days, but it's definitely one to check out at what point. This year's acts included New Order and Franz Ferdinand.

8
DISAGREE?

Benicassim (Valencia, Spain)

Another Spanish festival that brings with it all the usual benefits (as well as better weather) is the Benicassim Festival (also known as FIB). Held in Valencia, this year's event manages to boast an idyllic location and a line-up featuring Bob Dylan, Florence & The Machine and Ed Sheeran, and should tempt plenty of UK visitors between the 12th and 15th of July.

Even though Valencia is a little harder to get to than Barcelona, when it comes to car hire Spain is pretty well equipped, with companies like Europcar available at many airports, so getting to the festival shouldn't be massively difficult.

9
DISAGREE?

Pukkelpop (Belgium)

Held near Hasselt during August, Pukkelpop (which is held in a combination of field and woodland) attracts over 180,000 people every year.

This year's line-up includes the Foo Fighters, Black Keys, Bjork, the Stone Roses and Snoop Dogg - pretty fantastic!

10
DISAGREE?

Winnipeg Folk Festival (Winnipeg, Canada)

Those fancying a North American jaunt, but preferring something a little more laid back than Coachella could do a lot worse than Canada's Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada. One of the most renowned folk festivals in all of the world, this year's event (kicking off on the 4th of July) will feature, amongst others, the likes of Iron & Wine, Billy Bragg and Feist.
