The yearly rounds of Oscar nominations is always a fun topic of discussion as this years snubs and suprises are listed in our top 10 list. I'm sure we'll see another list of snubs and suprises as those little golden men are handed out in February.

Selma got Snubbed
So getting nominated for best picture may not feel like a snub per se, but it is when none of the other actors or actresses are nominated for anything else. Perhaps last year's 12 Years a Slave saw too much action for the Academy.
2
Gone Girl is missing from Screenplay adaptation
We're talking about Gillian Flynn and her adaption of Gone Girl from print to screen. While being her first adaption of a novel to movie she preserves the tension and pacing of the novel that makes the movie such a trip. Without it's character centered narration and perspective much of what makes Gone Girl such a head-trip is lost as just another thriller.

Everything is not Awesome (so you've heard that one before huh?)
Best animated feature, this comedic satire should have easily made the shortlist for an Oscar this year. However it was not meant to be, while the song "Everything is awesome" is up for best original song, everything is not awesome for a film that should have easly outstripped its competition.
4
Bradley Cooper is doing an awesome job
Bradley Cooper's portaryl of Chris Klye in American Sniper was a physical trip for the actor as he packed on nearly 40 pounds of muscle for the role. His transformation is the opposite of what Gyllenhaal had to accomplish for their respective roles, I guess one role was just more relateable than that other.

Maybe Clint Eastwood isn't that great of a director after all
Speaking of Clint Eastwood, I don't know about you, but American Sniper was incredibly well done leaving me on the edge of my seat during both his tours overseas as well as at home. The movie did receive six nominations, but none for Eastwood. I suppose he'll have to take solace in knowing that his movie will likely win something.

Who's going to leave the biggest footprint on the Oscars? Godzilla.
Best visual effects, Godzilla, the first Godzilla movie that was worth watching in theaters. The fact that people went to see it should have rendered it a nomination from the Academy. But not this year, a bunch of damn dirty apes (as Clint Eastwood would say) got a nomination, but not Godzilla.
7
The Grand Budapest Hotel keeps its doors open
Wes Anderson and the Academy Awards go together like water and oil. But this year, we've got a surprise on our hands in the form of nine nominations including best motion picture. And coming out nearly 10 months ago, the fact that this movie stayed on everyone's mind is surprising enough.

Jake Gyllenhaal gets snubbed for being creepy
I can only assume that the Academy and I saw different movies when viewing Nightcrawler. Gyllenhaal's Leo Bloom is a dark and twisted look at perfectionism and a the "fake it until you make it" mentality was absolutely worthy of at least a nod from the Academy after it's nominations for Golden Globe and SAG awards. But alas, this quirky character is out of place amongst our other idiosyncratic best actors this season.
9
Foxcatcher catches many but not elusive best film
Snub or suprise, think of it as you want to, but with 5 nominations for a film many overlooked that seems a heck of a surprise to me. As far as the snubbing goes? Five nominations including Bennett Miller's nomination for best director but the film not getting a nomination for best picture surely could be portrayed as a snub to many.
10
The Oscars smell desperation all over Marion Cotillard
Snatching a potential nomination away from Jennifer Aniston in Cake. Marion Cotillard provides an emotionally heartfelt portrayl of a mother of two on the verge of losing her job at a local factory. The story follows her over the course of the weekend as she tries to persuade fellow employees to turn down valuable raises during a vote the following Monday so she can keep her job.
