THE TOP TEN Things To Do If You Lose Electricity
Losing electricity sucks. It's like moving, looking for a job, being broking up with, losing your wallet/purse, hangovers, bad Indian food, dusted kegs of PBR, Seinfeld ending, the Cubs, or getting second place in a fantasy football league. I should make a Top Ten Things That Suck Just As Much As Losing Electricity.
This list is inspired by all the 1.4 million brave souls in San Diego and Orange County that endured a powerless September 8-9, 2011.(https://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/sep/08/widespread-power-outages-across-san-diego-county/)
Although I was safe from hurricanes, earthquakes, and power outages in San Francisco, I still received an email from SD&G, who has my email account on file from living there a year ago. Funny that they sent an email that can't be read without electricity, except by those with smartphones. I would have been screwed. Here is the email in it's entirety for those that missed it:
Dear Customer:
At this time, San Diego and southern Orange counties are without power. For now, we don’t know the exact cause of the outage and our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.
The outage could last into tomorrow as we bring the system up gradually to full power. The outage started at 3:38 p.m. today and caused a widespread transmission issue on the grid that serves Western Arizona and Southern California.
You should activate your personal family emergency plan.
Some safety tips to keep in mind during this time:
• Turn off air conditioners to prevent them from unexpectedly coming on when the power is restored.
• Unplug sensitive equipment like microwaves, televisions, computers and electric range cook tops.
• Leave one light on so you’ll know when the power is restored.
• Keep your refrigerator and your freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage.
Thank you for your patience as we work to restore power.
"You're welcome for our patience".
