Build a repertoire
Learn music that's outside your interests. The more styles you can master, the more likely you will find gigs.

Network with local bands, sit in on practices and jam with them. If you're good, they will most likely find something quickly that they would like you to sing with them. You could also pick up recording work too.

Take lessons
Keep your instrument in tip top condition by hiring a vocal coach and practising vocal exercises regularly. Join a choir to ensure you sing regularly.

Have a great demo tape
Ensure your demo tape is as perfect as it can possibly be. Make sure that the rhythms are tight, levels are correct you are in tune etc. It is a showcase of your talent and you possibly only have seconds to make a great impression.

Go door to door
Put that demo tape to good use by sending it off to music labels or your singing idols.

Open Mic competition
The Open Mic competition is travelling all over the UK to find new talent. Open Mic Birmingham is this Saturday 25th August, it does have a knack of producing stars!

TV shows such as X-Factor and The Voice have launched some major pop star's careers, but it is highly competitive to say the least and contestants are under the spotlight for months.

Showcase your talents online on sites such as YouTube.

Record yourself
Record your singing and play it to as many family, friends and even strangers, as possible.

Go busking
Find out about busking opportunities in your nearest town and sing to the masses. you might even earn a bit of money too!
