1
Make a list
Like when going for your weekly or monthly shopping, you know what you need and which products should be purchased to make all the relevant meals.
2
Get the right currency
If travelling within Europe it is fine: Eurozone is making everything easier. One currency for all. However, don't mix your US and Australian Dollars.
3
Know your flight/train details
Make sure to know from which station or airport you are leaving/arriving. The time, reference number, seat number as well...it case you need to meet someone half way through.
4
Go easy at the airport bar
Over drinking before taking a flight is not a good move. A quick binge drinking session is a NO-NO. And imagine the morning after the day before and the jetlag on top of that...you don't want to go there.
5
Respect the customs/security staff
Going through Customs is a serious thing. If you are asked to open your bag or suitcase - there is a reason for it. It is about being safe for yourself and others too. Respecting those employees is important, simply because they could refuse you the access of the plane depending on your behaviour too.
6
Be flexible when moving across the globe
It can happen that a connection is delayed. Meaning than the rest of your itinerary will need slight changes...late arrival for Hotel and Guest House, as an example.
7
Speak the language
You don't need to be fully bilingual, but a minimum is required and always makes a good impression. Asking for directions is a good start. And it is not only about talking but understanding too - which is certainly the hardest.
8
Peace of mind
A holiday insurance is essential whether you are going far or not. Whatever happens you will be covered: emergency medical cover - 24/7 travel assistance helpline and protection for your well-being.
9
Time management
Don't leave it to the last minute to book a taxi or hotel transfer. You should move from A to B smoothly if you know your way beforehand. Remember that you are not the only one travelling to and from at that particular tiime. Make space for your travel.
10
Chill out
Once you have reached your boarding space, it is time to relax and appreciate that free/spare time. Books, magazines or podcasts of the country/county you are going to visit will certainly help you to pick which attraction/gallery/restaurant/museum to go for when stepping out your holiday accommodation.
