2
Le Select
If you want to hang out where the likes of Henry Miller, Hemingway, Picasso and F. Scott Fitzgerald all took their coffee breaks, then this is the place for you.
3
La Caféothèque
Coffee purists will love this cafe. The world's finest coffes are directly imported from small plantations and the beans are roasted daily. The aroma fills the air with irrestistable smells and it is then brewed in an expresso machine from famed Florence maker La Marzocco.
4
Café des 2 Moulins
The Café des 2 Moulins' claim to fame came in the form of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's instant classic film Amélie, so if you're planning a break in Paris which includes film settings then this should be on your list.
5
Merce & The Muse
Run by a young American expat in the upper Marais who is exacting about the quality of her beans and the technique to brew them, she has attracted a loyal clientele who sit stylishly around the low communal table with a real latte and a homemade carrot muffin.
6
Café de la Nouvelle Mairie
The Café de la Nouvelle Mairie is popular with both the artsy crowd from the Universal Music offices across the street as well as students from the Sorbonne, the lycée Henri IV and the Ecole Normale Supérieure.
7
Les Deux Magots
Now an upscale hangout for the tourists and the Paris elite, you can while away an afternoon on the sunny terrace as you imagine who else may have sat in your very spot in the past.
8
The Hemingway Bar
Located within the Ritz hotel, this is a bar which plays tribute to the eponymous author with a wall display of 25 of his original photos from A Moveable Feast. Here you can enjoy bers from around the world, or Hemingway's old favourite, a single malt whiskey.
9
Le Procope
This is the oldest cafe in paris, founded in 1686. It was once frequented by such persons as Voltaire and Benjamin Franklin. This is a very cafe, with chandelier-clad high ceilings and walls lined with antique paintings, ideal for a step back in time.
10
Le Comptoir du Relais
Le Comptoir du Relais is best known as chef Yves Camdeborde's deservedly touted restaurant, but in between lunch and dinner it is the perfect spot to sit and drink while watching the bustling carrefour de l'Odéon.
