As a resident of Music City I have learned a lot about the area and the colorful people. It's just like any other city in the US-we have schools, restaurants, and shopping malls just like your town. But Nashville is constantly buzzing with curious tourists from all over the world in search of the 'experience' that is Music City. If you're planning a vacation here why not learn a bit about it before you arrive? Here are a few hints that might open your eyes to see our city the way we view it. Some are common sense and others are things you wouldn't think of-but should. Hang on to your cowboy boots it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

Cowboy hats/boots: if you normally wear these items-then by all means wear them here. Not all of us wear them-some do, some don't-just like in your town. Just because you are in Nashville it doesn't mean you have to wear cowboy boots-I'm just sayin.

During football season, if you go into a bar wearing another teams jersey (other than the Titans) be prepared for some light hearted commentary. Just smile and take it with a grain of salt. Your in a bar-act normal and no one will get hurt. Just kidding! But remember we love our Titans just as much as you love enter team name here!
3
Not all of us dig country music. Really. There are other types of music available within the city limits. Why don't you check out our blues, salsa, and rock-you'll be glad you did.
4
Don't forget to tip your server. If you have enough money to spend the evening drinking then you should have enough to tip. Don't spend 3 hours getting drunk and leave a $5 tip. It's just plain rude. Which brings me to #5.
5
The world is not your restroom. If you get drunk and stumble into an alley please don't assume it's there for your personal use as an outhouse. For residents-it's our backyard. We do not want to see what you deposited when we leave our home the next morning. I know that sounds icky but consider our point of view-we live here!
6
Homeless people live here, too. Please don't hurt them.
7
Yes, we have celebrities. If you happen to bump into one-try to be polite. They live here too, and they like the fact that they can go grocery shopping without someone screaming their names and hounding them for an autograph.
8
Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking. I don't know how many times I have seen a couple walking down the street and the woman is wearing 5 inch stilettos and cringing in pain with every step. You can wear fashionable shoes and still be comfortable. Which brings me to #9.
9
Park at the hotel and take a cab to your first destination. You will save: money (as opposed to parking in a lot), time (looking for a lot to park in), and your achy feet (walking from the lot to your destination). It's probably a good idea to get a cab at the end of the evening, too.
10
Chat up the locals. We love to hang out with new folks and share our hints about great places to eat, drink, dance, and shop! Plus you could make new friends that you can visit next time you come to Nashville. Remember....living in Nashville does have it's perks!
